Biography

Ann M. Zaia, PhD, CNP, ScM, MSN, MHA, COHN-S, FAAOHN, is a Senior Lecturer III in the Donna M. and Robert J. Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences and has been teaching at UMass Boston since 2005. She specializes in occupational and environmental health and safety, infectious disease prevention, and workforce well-being. Dr. Zaia integrates research, teaching, and practice to prepare nurses for leadership roles in advancing safe, healthy environments for patients and providers.

Area of Expertise

An experienced board-certified occupational health nurse practitioner and healthcare executive, Ann brings over 30 years of expertise in occupational health encompassing a wide variety of settings including academia, hospital, biotech and biopharmaceutical industries. A recognized leader in clinic management, biosafety, and bloodborne pathogen exposure management, she has built a reputation for excellence in regulatory compliance and workplace health initiatives. Her comprehensive knowledge spans OSHA, FAA, and FMCSA regulations, along with expertise in incident command, hospital preparedness, practice management, and healthcare information systems.
